About the event
Based on the life of Swedish painter Hilma af Klint (1862-1944) written and directed by Oscar nominee Lasse Hallström (CHOCOLAT, Cider House Rules) who brings to the forefront a female artist whose phenomenal works remained uncovered and unknown for 80 years, until ‘THE SPIRITUAL IN ART ABSTRACT PAINTING’ an exhibition in Los Angeles in 1986 followed by the Solomon Guggenheim Museum’s exhibition ‘HILMA AF KLINT:PAINTINGS FOR THE FUTURE’ seen by over 600,000 visitors. Director Hallstrom has used his directorial paint brush to delve into Hilma’s life which influenced her extraordinary abstract paintings with her use of vibrant colors, geometry, science, spiritualism that were way ahead of her time. Featuring his daughter Tora Hallstrom as the young Hilma and his wife Oscar nominee Lena Olin (CHOCOLAT) as an Older Hilma. Hallstrom has again produced a beautiful film as he states “this is a story about an unwavering search for the truth about humanity and the universe, at a time when men set all the rules . Despite so many obstacles, Hilma created art that influences our lives today. My ambition is for the audience to experience these struggles with all their senses”. A beautiful film not to be missed.
