Set in 1945 on the North Frisian island of Amrum, this poignant drama follows 12-year-old Nanning, whose father serves as an SS officer and whose mother falls into despair after Germany’s defeat. With food scarce and neighbors hostile, Nanning works the fields and searches desperately to feed his newborn sister and ailing mother. Unaware of the full horrors of the regime, he confronts shame, survival, and responsibility in a fractured community. Based on director Hank Bohm’s memories, the film captures innocence tested by history.
